The Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provides independent oversight and promotes excellence, integrity, and accountability within the Department. The OIG focuses its oversight on the Department’s core mission areas: preventing terrorism and enhancing security; securing and managing our borders; enforcing and administering our immigration laws; safeguarding and securing cyberspace; and ensuring resilient response to disasters. Both the Department and the OIG were established by Congress in 2002.
